How does the Acropolis combined ticket work?
The €30 combined ticket gives access to seven archaeological sites in Athens and is valid for five consecutive days. The seven sites are: the Acropolis, the Ancient Agora, the Roman Agora, Kerameikos, the Temple of Olympian Zeus (Olympieion), Hadrian's Library, and Aristotle's School (Lykeion). If you plan to visit at least three of these sites, the combined ticket is almost always cheaper than buying individually.
Is the Acropolis Museum included?
No. The Acropolis Museum (one of Europe's finest museums) requires a separate ticket at €15. This is well worth adding — it houses thousands of original sculptures and friezes from the Acropolis, including the famous Caryatids. Some booking platforms offer a bundled Acropolis + Museum ticket, which can save a small amount vs buying at the door.
What about the Athens city pass?
The Athens city pass (approximately €69) bundles hop-on-hop-off bus access, Acropolis entry, and the Acropolis Museum into one ticket. It is good value if you also want the HoHo bus for city orientation — but if you prefer to walk or use the metro, you will save money buying the combined archaeological ticket separately and adding the museum ticket on top (total around €45 in summer).
Tips for visiting the Acropolis
- Book tickets online in advance, especially in summer — queues at the gate can be 45–90 minutes long.
- Arrive early (opens 8am) or late (last 2 hours before closing) for smaller crowds and cooler temperatures.
- The combined ticket is purchased once and used at multiple sites over 5 days — you do not need to visit everything on the same day.
- Wear sturdy shoes — the marble paths on the Acropolis rock are polished smooth and can be slippery.
- Bring water and sunscreen; there is almost no shade on the Acropolis hill itself.
